SEC Chief Pushing ESG Rule Makes Case For $2 Billion Plus Budget

The SEC needs more money from Congress to work effectively on climate disclosure and other environmental, social and governance rules as part of a wide-ranging agenda, Chair Gary Gensler told House lawmakers.

The Securities and Exchange Commission is seeking $2.149 billion from Congress in its annual appropriations request, an 8 % bump from its fiscal 2022 budget, which ends Sept. 30.

Gensler, a Democrat, is looking to start or finish work on dozens of rules in the coming months, including plans to propose corporate board diversity and workforce disclosure rules and complete greenhouse gas emissions reporting rules for public companies. ...
